There is a hashtag on social media that states, #ProtectBlackWomen, and it seems to bring up to the surface what needs to be seen. When we, as inhabitants of Earth, do protect Black Women (for the remainder of time), then we all are free. A system built on an uneven, faulty foundation will fall, even if it has been around for thousands of years. Even with the architects, builders, and workers desperately re-cementing the cracks in the walls and the foundation trying to keep the structure intact, it will fall. Even if the advertising and PR teams try a reboot, a new facade, or the latest new updates, the system will fall.
Wow! That is a bold statement! What are you talking about?! Where’s your proof?! What about…? What about all women? What about Black men? What about all of the others? So, what you’re saying is that you only care about Black women? This “what about” list includes, but is not limited to: Indigenous peoples; people with disabilities; the queer community; the religious or atheists; people in other countries under horrific conditions; people who are in each different culture or nationality; people who are incarcerated; the children; the white women; the white men.
When the world, which contains each society with individual and collective will, chooses to protect Black women, then every other being is protected as the natural consequence. When Black women are protected, the structure of hierarchy must be transformed into a new shape (or a previous shape that has been violently suppressed for millennia). This transformation into a new shape is the marker of ascending to a higher level of consciousness. *Let’s call the current shape a triangle or pyramid shape, and the desired shape is a circle. This triangle only allows one at the top with the vast majority at the bottom. The ones on the sides of the triangle fight, kill, steal, scratch, claw, hoard to get to be the one at the top. The ones at the bottom are trying to stay alive. The circle is different. I’ll come to the circle in a bit. There is only one question that I am asking-“Are all beings equal?” Debate is unnecessary. It is a straightforward question with a one-word answer. Each one of us chooses the answer every day.
Here is where the fear comes in. Just take a breath and feel the question in your mind. Now, name the places of constriction or pain in your body. Breathe. Listen to the thoughts, memories, beliefs, expectations that arise in your mind. Where is the resistance?
Yes or No. Are all beings equal?
If the answer is anything other than an unqualified “yes,” then it is a “no” response. All beings are equal does not have Terms and Conditions policies that one has to read and check the box before a purchase. We are not filling out an application for a car loan! It is a binary choice-yes or no. If the answer is yes, then the current hierarchical structure must change form to reflect that choice. Each one of us chooses the answer every day.
So, what does this have to do with Black women? Question meets metaphysical answer. What is on the outside is a projection of what is on the inside. This is on the personal level and the collective level of consciousness. The structure of hierarchy is the will of the collective consciousness as well as the individual’s will. Will is consent. The question, again, is “Are all beings equal?” Based on the last several millennia, with relatively few exceptions, the collective consciousness answered NO! I say this, not because the answer is true, but because of the evidence of what was collectively chosen.
For the previous several thousand years, the results of this collective consciousness choice was the world plunged in the darkness, the terror, the cruelty, and the pain. Although the darkness was interspersed with moments of joy, creativity, love, and community, the overwhelming share of that epoch was a dismal life experience for the majority of the people. If you were in the “top tiers” of the hierarchy, you appeared to have ease and comfort in your life. However, if all beings are equal, can one have real ease and comfort while holding onto the top spot on the pyramid?
Can one find ease and comfort in their heart and mind while maintaining the belief of superiority and inferiority?
When human civilization had the form of non-hierarchy/the circle, the result was inverted from our current results. The Earth was honored, animals were honored, and water was honored. Women were honored! (greatly admired, respected, esteemed!) GLORIOUS! Black women were the original. (Or one of the originals with their DNA being traced back a super-duper long time. Not debating with scientific discoveries, because that is not the intent). The darkness of forgetting covered the eyes of the people, and non-hierarchy became hierarchy. *Human civilization went from a circle to a triangle. In the circle, all beings are equal with each one creating, supporting, protecting, and contributing one’s own specific genius to the whole, and that genius is reciprocated.
Black women are the original. So, why in the name of sanity, would we attack her? Why not protect her? Why use her and discard her? Why would the intersecting groups connected to her use her to achieve the returning of their rights, promise to use those very rights to help her secure hers, and then delay hers? Why promise to love, not with words but actions, and then rescind the agreement? Millions of times. To me, Black women were and are the constant reminder of what human civilization was before the hierarchy, and also what we will be again. For the hierarchical structure to stand firmly in place, that memory must not exist and be brought to the fore of the mind and heart. That memory is ignored, at best, and cruelly punished with extinction actions at worst. FEAR. Fear of being knocked off the top spot. Fear of remembering the origin. Must keep the hierarchy in order. Must extinguish those who do not comply or even dare to question the order of succession, the rules, the rule-makers, the holy books, the leaders and their masses. Must forcibly revoke all societal progress of the last 60 years.
All to keep the question, “ARE ALL BEINGS EQUAL?” at bay.
Once each one of us in every society protects Black women, the world must protect, honor, and respect all beings because of remembered equality and oneness. Once I protect Black women in my heart, mind, words, and actions, I have already remembered all who intersect with them! All Indigenous peoples, people with disabilities, Black men, all women, LGBTQIA+, all children, all faith believers, all atheists, all workers and laborers, all artists and creatives, all elders, all peoples in all countries, all of the air, water, and Earth are instantly included!
#ProtectBlackWomen to me means to honor, cherish, and protect the lineage of the ones who remember. The ones who remember the song of creation, the song of love, the song of oneness. The song reminds us of the answer to the question, “Are all beings equal?’ The chorus is
There is One. One to honor. One to respect. One to love.
That one is each one of you, each one of us.
Each one honored, respected, and loved infinitely.
That is too big of an ask, Carolyn! I can’t possibly honor, respect, and love everyone in my mind, heart, words, and actions all of the time! Well, right now, I can’t either! But I’m waaaay further down the road to that outcome than I was! We take it one thought at a time. One belief at a time. One grievance at a time. One tradition at a time. We continue looking at each fear one at a time in order to become skilled in recognizing its appearance in the mind and heart.
